Below
you will find basic information about John Crow Farm CSAs.
What
is a CSA?
CSA stands for community
supported agriculture, a system where you help John Crow
Farm by making a commitment to buy its products early in the year. Your
advance payment helps sustain the farm.
What
is the difference between the Meat CSA and Poultry CSA?
The Meat CSA contains a mix of beef, lamb, pork and a little chicken.
The Poultry CSA contains a mix of poultry wholes, halves and pieces, as
well as, monthly eggs and holiday birds (at no add'l cost).
How
big are the Meat and Poultry CSAs?
We offer multiple Meat CSA share sizes: five, ten,
fifteen, twenty or twenty-five
lbs of pre-packaged meat that is delivered monthly. Larger sizes are also
possible; contact us to discuss this. The Poultry CSA comes in six
and twelve lb sizes monthly.
How
do I pay?
To sign up online, please use the PayPal links on our CSA pages. If you'd
prefer to send a check or pay with a credit card via telephone, please
email us an inquiry and your phone number, and we will contact you with
more information. Local folks may also stop by the JCF stand when it is
open, where we accept cash, check or credit.
What
is in the CSA?
The Meat CSA includes a variety of cuts from pork, lamb, beef and chicken
each month. At times, we may have specialty items like quail, pheasant
or rabbit to include in monthly shares. We email members to see who has
an interest in receiving them before CSA delivery. Everything is delicious,
take our word for it. The Poultry CSA is made up of chicken primarily,
but may at times include turkey, duck or goose.
What
if I miss picking up my share?
You may request via email one of the following options...1)
receive a double share during the next month's CSA pick up, 2) pick up
at a farmers market where JCF vends, or 3) pick up at the farm on a prearranged
day and time. Each of these options is subject to JCF discretion.
When
do the Meat and Poultry CSAs begin?
Meat and Poultry CSA segments begin quarterly in March, June, September,
and December. The deadline to sign up for each segment is the 5th of the
start month. Any sign-ups received after the deadline will automatically
be entered into the next segment.
When
does the Veggie CSA begin and are there rules guiding it?
The Veggie CSA begins June and goes until October. The rules are as follows:
We do not give credit for vacation weeks, so it is your responsibility
to have someone pick up your share if you are unable to do so. Generally,
it is an unknown what will be in the VegCSA from week to week; please
be prepared to adapt your home menu for the week.
